How Often You Need To Change Baby’s Diaper?

baby diaper change How Often You Need To Change Baby’s Diaper? The aspect of infant care discussed in this article is how often a parent can expect to have to change your baby’s diaper. This is very dependent on your child and their specific habits but there are a few guidelines that you can follow to give you an idea of when you should be concerned.

It is difficult to set a number on how often your child should have a wet or dirty diaper but typically a baby should have at least one dirty diaper per day and at least two wet diapers per day. In baby care, these numbers can be drastically different. A baby may wet many more diapers than this and it is very common for babies to have six or seven wet diapers in a day, especially when they are younger. As far as dirty diapers, it may happen that your child has several dirty diapers as well without being a cause for immediate concern.

If your child does not have a dirty diaper one day, this may not be an issue. There will likely be several days throughout their infancy when they do not go number two. If your child has not had a bowel movement so far today, watch their behavior and check to see if they are exhibiting signs of being in pain. Typically in infant care, the signs you should look for are excessive whining or agitation, vomiting, sleeping a large amount, negative reaction to pressure on their stomach, or sleeping an unusual amount. If a child is not showing any of these signs and this is the first day that they have not had a bowel movement, it is likely no cause for alarm, however there is no harm in calling your physician. If your child goes a second or third day without a bowel movement, you should contact your doctor to make an appointment. This could be a sign of a bowel obstruction or another problem that needs immediate attention.

Your child may also simply be constipated, in which case there are many things you can do to help relieve the problem. There are medications for the problem but it is best to try not to use these unless it has been several days or your doctor suggests their use. In baby care, it is often suggested to give children prunes or other foods that promote bowel movements. You can also give your child a warm bath, which helps relax the child so they can pass the movement. Again, these are solutions for short term constipation and if it has been two or more days since your child had a dirty diaper, you should contact your doctor to see if this course is best or if there is a problem that needs a more drastic solution.

If your child does not have any wet diapers for a day, you should not give him more liquids than normal as this can lead to more issues in the bladder. You should call your doctor immediately. Likewise, infant care sources suggest that if your baby is having a large number of wet diapers, you should call your physician because it can lead to dehydration or be a symptom of a medical problem.
